It’s been about a year and a half since I got my last haircut (oops) and my hair has been getting pretty gross lately. When I saw recent photos of me where my hair pretty much reached my waist (these photos) I realized I was loooong overdue for a trim. I went to Marie-Lou & D, a beautiful full service salon and spa in Soho, for a cut and blow out and was so impressed with the incredible service and amazing cut. I think this may be the place for the best hair salon in NYC! Besides for the salon being spacious and beautiful (photos below), my stylist – Tre Wyrosdick – took the time to talk me through what he would do and patiently answered all my questions. He even gave me tips and tricks on how to manage my hair on my own which I’ve been using. Marie-Lou & D is offering 15% off any services you may be interested in with code LOVEAFFAIRMLD. MLD is located at 345 West Broadway NY, NY 10013. Their phone number is (212) 390-8666.
I want to share from Tre in his own words exactly what my visit looked liked as this is his area of expertise, not mine!
Recently I had the pleasure of having Shira Rose of @asequinloveaffair pay me a visit for a fresh cut. After having a quick consultation, I decided what these long lovely locks really needed was a boost of hydration and a cut that celebrates natural texture while helping to control its unruly nature. On damp hair, I used a slide cutting technique which allows me to create space and movement for Shira’s dense hair to fall into place and take shape when air drying which she does most days. Because hair with waves and curls tend to be dryer by nature I like to use Shu Uemura’s Essence Absolue Nourishing Cleansing Milk to wash the hair which allows us to keep optimal moisture and follow with a nice leave in cream such as Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil in Cream or Kerastase Discipline Oleo Curl Ideal to allow the hair to air dry without frizz and contour the shape of natural waves or curls. The newly cut style opens up Shira’s beautiful face, better contours her natural texture and maintains her signature long lovely locks! @treavius Creative Colorist I was happy that the second I walked in, Tre reassured me that we would maintain my length. I never felt pressured to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with which is really important to me when I visit a salon. They offered to color my hair but I’m fine with my color the way it is; I did notice another woman getting the most gorgeous color so I’d absolutely recommend them if you’re looking to get your hair colored!
I loved the end results! Tre chopped a good 4+ inches but my hair is still plenty long. Plus he gave me the perfect beach waves which we all know I’m all about! The icing on the cake was that incredible neon ombre wall right across the street from their salon. I was lucky my outfit worked with it too. Haha!
