FAQ About Laser Hair Removal

Before I talk about my experience with laser hair removal, I just want to make it clear that it’s just that; it’s my personal experience. Also for the sake of full disclosure, I was given free underarm laser hair removal at Deify Laser + Beauty Lounge. However, I don’t review products or services without being honest to my readers, and I’d never recommend something I didn’t 100% believe in. With that said…..here’s the scoop.

I’ve wanted to do laser hair removal for a while now but I was put off by horror stories of people being severely burned, their skin changing color, horrible pain, or that it just didn’t work. When a close friend of mine did laser hair removal with great results, I decided to do my own research. Actually, first I decided to buy a groupon to a laser hair removal place nearby on a whim. I’m a WIMP when it comes to pain. I’m not kidding-I cannot tolerate pain very well but it was painless and quick! I was ecstatic but….uh, there were no results. So that’s when I decided to do some research and I discovered that you need to find out what machines are being used. The machines that are most effective are Candela and Yag. I then started to look into places in the city (NYC and Brooklyn) that used those machines. That’s when I discovered Deify Laser. I realized that if you’re dealing with professional and experienced technicians with top of the line equipment,  you shouldn’t have a horror story. And the technicians at Deify are amazing; well at least the one I’ve been using-Lisa!

Adorable stress balls in case you need something to squeeze.

Does laser hair removal hurt?
Yes. I’m not going to lie and say it’s pain-free but it’s tolerable pain. And remember, I don’t do pain; I cried for an hour after doing electrolysis once but this was honestly…tolerable. Depending on the body part, the pain is different. I was told the underarm would be more painful and it really wasn’t. It felt like quick snaps of a rubber band against my skin but I didn’t even flinch.

What should you expect from laser hair removal?
So when I did my underarms a few weeks ago, I was super disappointed a few days later when I seemed just as….hairy. But then I started noticing that it was falling out and 2 weeks later, I saw about a 50-60% reduction after just one time! No, I am not kidding! It took about 3 or 4 times before I noticed the hair above my lip decrease and that’s because for some reason, facial hair is more stubborn. It could be a hormone thing, but I’m not an expert. The average person needs about 6-8 treatments per area in total but results vary from person to person.

Does laser hair removal work for everyone?
The best results happen for people with dark, course hair on light skin, although Deify has a machine that works for dark skin too! It’s more painful though because the setting has to be higher, I’m not going to lie. I needed to use it in one area where my skin is darker and that pain was intense. If you have blonde hair, laser isn’t really an option for you.

I don’t think I could go to another place after going to Deify. The neighborhood is great, the place is clean and hip, and the technicians and machines are top notch. If you have any more questions about laser hair removal that I didn’t answer, please feel free to ask me. I’ll do a follow up post in about 6 months to share the long term results. You can check out Deify on facebook here, their website here, and to check out reviews, check Yelp here.

Feeling Blue (The Good Kind!)

Yay for finally getting my own domain (http://AsequinLoveAffair.com)! Hope you like my new name and beautiful blog design thanks to the beautiful and talented Kelly Stahley. And I realllyyyy hope you follow me via bloglovin’ or google friend connect!

I went to the Rebecca Minkoff sample sale last week and got this beautiful bag. Also, my shoes are from J.Crew kids and I know I’ve mentioned it before but if you’re under a size 7.5 shoe, you can wear kid shoes. I’ve gotten shoes in the kid’s department from Zara, Gap, J.Crew, and Toms. Less money and if you’re a flat wearer like me, there are a ton of great options!

Can Petite Girls Wear Maxi Skirts?

In a word (or two), heck yes!! I’ve never owned a maxi skirt because I’ve never found one I could pull off. My most recent failed attempt was when I tried on a gorgeous colorblocked maxi skirt at Anthropologie. I looked like I was drowning in layers of fabric and the hemming I would need to do would cut off all the pretty colorblocking. When I was recently browsing through Ann Taylor (window shopping of courseee), I saw this skirt and loved the vibrant blue colors but knew it would be a big fail. When I saw it in the petite section, I thought I may as well give it a shot. I tried on the petite and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t look like a homeless cat lady! I’m wearing it a little high up and one size smaller than I usually wear but I think it works. If you’re petite, I’d suggest only looking maxi skirts that are carried in petite sizes. I’ve personally found that pleated maxis don’t work for my frame, but that’s just me!

Peach Lace and Polka Dots

Notice anything interesting in these photos? Hmm?? Yep-my shirt is tucked in with most of them! The first half was untucked of course until Chani kept telling me to tuck it in and I finally listened to her and….the results aren’t bad. I’m a pretty self conscious person (not that you would know from all the pictures of me hehe) so I don’t think I’d keep it tucked in for more than 5 minutes but small steps!
